Dear John,
Last year, with your support, we helped over 1.5 million people around the world access the contraception they wanted—putting them in control of their own bodies and futures. Our comprehensive approach to reproductive health care has always included both contraception to prevent pregnancy and quality abortion care when needed.
Today we want to share with you three ways we’re expanding access to contraception—along with testimonies from the people who gained information and power through our programs, showing their truly transformative results:
1. We train providers and pharmacists so they can provide the counseling, options and contraceptive care people need.
“Before the training, I would blame or judge them when they came to me for help but now, I give her options that can help her not to have unintended pregnancies.”
- Ronke, a community health extension worker trained by Ipas in Nigeria
2. We educate communities and youth so they know how to prevent pregnancy and access contraception.
“For the first time, I understood the different family planning devices and, importantly, when and where to get a safe abortion.”
- Sabina Shahi, age 25, attended a community information session led by an Ipas-trained grassroots leader in her village in rural Nepal
3. We engage men in family planning so they can support women’s decisions and help them find contraceptive care.
“Before, I thought that the decisions about my partner’s body were mine only, but the process with Ipas made me understand the importance of respecting her rights and making decisions together.”
- Juan Pérez, participant in Ipas’s program in Bolivia to build gender equity by tackling patriarchal social norms
