Look, I didn't
get into politics because I like asking supporters for money.
In fact, this all started almost by accident.

I never thought I'd run for office. I planned to be a special education
teacher. That was until I saw some problems in my community.
We needed someone from our community to represent us on the Minneapolis
school board to fight for children and families. I tried to recruit
someone, anyone else for the job — until a woman came up to me after
another attempt to convince someone to step up and run, and told me I was
the one for the job.
So, I stepped up. I wrote a campaign plan on a notepad in my car at
10:30pm on the side of the road. I never thought I was going to win, but I
showed up in my community, built relationships, and offered up a vision
for what we could get done to help our kids. I ended up getting the
highest number of votes ever in a school board election in the district.
So, like I said, I’m not here because I like raising money. I’m in
politics because I see problems around me, and I’m a natural born
organizer. But the reality is, to win tough elections in our country, you
need money.
A lot of politicians solve that problem by catering to special interests
and corporate PACs. That's why, for too long, our politicians in
Washington haven't been looking out for real folks, who know what it is to
feel like the bottom can fall out at any moment.
That's not me. I know what it is to be one hospital bill away from
bankruptcy, to be the kid with a different color lunch ticket. That's why
I took on the challenge of running for office — because I believed I could
help make people’s lives better. And it's why I'm refusing to take a cent
of corporate PAC money — because I'm headed to Washington to represent
you, not them.
But the problem still stands that we need to raise a lot of money to win a
Senate race. We need to hire staff, run digital ads, host community
events, and remind voters of the stakes of this election. It doesn't come
cheap. That’s why I'm counting on you.
[ [link removed] ]I stepped up for my community, and now, I’m asking if you’ll step up
for my campaign. Will you make a donation of any amount before our
end-of-month deadline on Friday? In a race this size, we can’t afford to
fall behind on any of our fundraising goals.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your
donation will go through immediately:
