When the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) joined the AFL-CIO and our Sports Council back in 2023, it was a big step forward in our efforts advancing the rights and freedoms of professional women athletes.

In those two years, the WNBA’s popularity has skyrocketed, with sold-out arenas and record-breaking attendance—but the athletes haven’t earned their fair share. 

Now the WNBPA is at the bargaining table for a new contract and the WNBA and team owners are ignoring player demands—jeopardizing the future of women’s professional basketball.
