Dear John,
Oregon’s fish, wildlife, and wild places are in crisis. Despite this, during the 2025 Legislative Session, thanks to the use of a political stall tactic, 1% for Wildlife ( HB 2977 [[link removed]] ) never made it to the Senate floor for a vote after passing the House floor with strong bipartisan support. We came closer than ever to passing this historic bill this past session, and the job isn’t over yet. Will you show your support for Oregon’s wildlife, John? [[link removed]]
Take action for wildlife [[link removed]]
You know how special Oregon, and the wildlife that call this place home, is. It defines our state and is closely tied to most Oregonians' values to see fish, wildlife and habitats not just survive, but thrive.
Unfortunately, many of these iconic, native species are in decline due to habitat loss, climate change, and development — pushing them even further towards extinction. Nearly 300 species are at risk of extinction.
1% for Wildlife ( HB 2977 [[link removed]] ) is a bold, proactive solution to directly help at-risk species and habitats. Currently, the Oregon Dept of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) does not receive any dedicated funds from the state for the recovery and conservation of such species and habitats.
Increasing Oregon’s state transient lodging tax, currently the third lowest in the country, would provide a sustainable source of funds to ODFW to recover Oregon’s most imperiled species and habitat and enhance biodiversity — all of which contribute to Oregon’s tourism and outdoor recreation economy while keeping the tax at still one of the lowest in the country.
This bill wouldn’t have made it as far as it did in the legislature during the past session without your strong support, and we can't stop now. We need Governor Kotek’s support to have a real shot at passing this historic funding bill during the 2026 session, to put Oregon’s most vulnera ble wildlife on a better trajectory. Please send your email to Governor Kotek now! [[link removed]]
