Last week, more than 100 people joined the All Out for the Alliance Rally to demand that Councilmembers restore the DC Healthcare Alliance.

Providers and patients spoke out about the ways that losing their healthcare was affecting their lives. Patients shared stories of lives saved by cancer treatment, pain healed through knee replacement and physical therapy, and rehabilitation from work injuries.

Azeb Ataro Adere, founder of the Ethiopian Eritrean Special Needs Community (EESNC), shares the importance of the DC Healthcare Alliance on Oct 22 at the Save the Alliance Rally.

The storytelling continued directly to Councilmembers and their staff as part of our advocacy day following the rally. Over the course of the day, we reached every Council office in the building!

Our commitment to restoring the Alliance will not stop at the Alliance Rally– and neither should yours! We are still collecting postcards to share the importance of the DC Healthcare Alliance.

We need to flood the Council with personal stories about the importance of the Alliance, so we’re collecting 3,000 postcards to deliver in December.

Can you collect postcards in your community? Everyone is encouraged to sign them, but the most powerful testimonials we’ve seen come from patients, healthcare providers, and community members that had or have Alliance healthcare.

the language of postcards (Spanish/English or Amharic/English) you would like,
the quantity you want,
when you can pick them up at the Festival Center (1640 Columbia Rd NW) or other ways we can get them to you

We ask that they be returned to the Festival Center the week of November 17th. You can also pick up postcards at our annual I’ll Be There Awards on November 6 at 6pm.

Our next action will be on Wednesday, December 3 from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM at the Wilson Building. The Council’s Health Committee is hosting a “roundtable”, during which community members and public officials will share experiences and data about the impact of the cuts to Alliance healthcare.

Please register to testify on Dec 3rd here! We need as many people as possible to speak about how crucial the preservation of Alliance is. Here are materials to guide your testimony.

La semana pasada, más de 100 personas se unieron a la manifestación All Out for Alliance Rally para exigir a los concejales que restablecieran la DC Healthcare Alliance.

Los proveedores y los pacientes hablaron sobre cómo la pérdida de su seguro médico estaba afectando a sus vidas. Los pacientes compartieron historias de vidas salvadas gracias al tratamiento contra el cáncer, dolores curados mediante prótesis de rodilla y fisioterapia, y rehabilitación tras accidentes laborales.
