Trump is escalating his threats of war with Venezuela. He vowed to launch ground strikes against Venezuela and said he'd likely bypass Congressional authorization.1 The Trump administration authorized the CIA to carry out lethal operations within Venezuela and deployed a strike group to the Caribbean that includes the world's largest warship.2 There's a bipartisan push to stop Trump from dragging us into another devastating, intractable war. Senators Rand Paul and Adam Schiff said that Trump's bombings of six Venezuelan boats were extrajudicial and lawless killings.3,4 A vote is now imminent on a war powers resolution that would stop Trump from starting a full-blown war with Venezuela. They are going to be like, dead.”5 A Venezuelan official close to President Nicolas Maduro said that there's “no doubt” that Trump is trying to overthrow their government and turn the country into a U.S. colony.6 Current and former government officials in Latin America are warning that a U.S. war with Venezuela would destabilize the entire region.7 When asked if he agrees with Trump's claim that the strikes on Venezuelan boats were consistent with international law, Senator Ruben Gallego said, “No, it's murder.”8 Our lawmakers in Congress cannot allow Trump's law-breaking violence and warmaking to continue.
