Homecoming should be safe.
On Saturday night, students and alumni of Lincoln University in Chester County gathered after the football game to celebrate homecoming. It’s a familiar fall scene in Pennsylvania, where homecoming weekends are usually marked by laughter, joy, and community.
Then, around 9 PM, the shooting started. One person, 25-year-old J’Wan Jeffers, was killed. Six other people were shot and will carry the trauma of surviving a mass shooting for the rest of their lives. A homecoming celebration was wrecked by gunshots in our own backyard, and it has barely broken through in the news. |
