Dear John,

I want to share some updates with you from Congress and across our nation. Here are three things you need to know:

As the Chairman of the House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee, I am proud of my subcommittee’s work in crafting and voting out our government funding bill for the USDA, FDA, and related programs for rural communities. This bill will provide COVID-19 relief funding for farmers, low-income families, and essential workers. It also seeks to block dangerous regulations proposed by the Trump administration that would restrict SNAP eligibility for rural families. Finally, it seeks to allocate $1 billion to invest in rural broadband.

The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government, on which I serve as a senior member, passed its budget for the fiscal year 2021. This bill includes substantial funding for Election Assistance Grants and other election support measures, which will greatly aid voter protection efforts nationally and here in Georgia.

This week, as part of the appropriations process for our federal health agencies, I spearheaded a provision in the House bill that would provide non-emergency medical transportation to Medicaid recipients. Hundreds of thousands of Americans rely on Medicaid for life-saving care, but our current system cannot help those with no way to travel to their doctors. This provision will particularly benefit dialysis patients and those exposed to COVID-19.

Please visit my website for more information and updates. Stay safe, have a pleasant weekend, and know that I am working hard for you every day.

Sincerely,
Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr.
