Dear John:

I’m reaching out today because my dear friend Brad Lander has a big fundraising deadline this week. I’ve seen his compassion, selflessness, and effectiveness up close. New York City will benefit tremendously from his leadership as Comptroller.

Every $1 you contribute is matched by $8 in public financing -- and you can help elect my teammate, mentor, and co-conspirator in the fight for economic justice.

The most important deadline of Brad’s campaign so far is tomorrow at midnight. Can you join me in supporting a wonderful man and incredible leader, Brad Lander, with an 8-to-1 matched donation today? [[link removed]]

I met Brad seven years ago when we collaborated on writing a bold platform for progressives ahead of NYC’s 2013 city elections.

Our goal was to come out of that meeting with “13 bold progressive ideas for NYC in 2013,” but we ended up with closer to 130 ideas!

So many of the policies we discussed that first day, from paid family leave to ending rampant stop-and-frisk policing, have gone into effect -- but I don’t need to tell you that we have a long way yet to go. Too many of our current leaders lack the vision and political courage to truly address the intertwined crisis of COVID-19, systemic racism, widening inequality, and climate change.

For Brad, politics is a team sport. He listens, learns, and brings people together with the rigor and strategic vision of a great organizer.

And especially over the last few months, I’ve been incredibly proud to watch him rise to meet this historic moment -- from holding Zoom info sessions and fighting for policies to protect essential workers, to marching in the street in defense of Black lives, to voting his values on the city budget.

As NYC Comptroller, Brad will do what he has done at every step of his career: use every tool and asset at his disposal to make life better for the people of New York City. You are truly fortunate to have him!

But first, we have to win a crowded primary election. Unlike Brad, the other candidates in this race have not refused to take donations from for-profit developers, corporate PACs, and police unions. This is a people-powered effort -- can you join me in supporting Brad’s campaign with an 8-to-1 matched donation before tomorrow night? [[link removed]]
