Government shutdown live updates; SNAP and Social Security latest

The shutdown has officially reached day 28. Instead of helping negotiate a solution, Trump’s out of the country, and Speaker Johnson has still not called the House back into session. SNAP will stop sending out benefits on November 1st, an event that will affect millions of Americans. Republicans need to compromise by reinstating the ACA credits and end the shutdown.

Trump’s true motives for giving $20 billion of taxpayer money to Argentina, and his current attempt to give $20 billion more, have become crystal clear. All he’s doing is bailing out his personal friend, Javier Milei, who he claims won with “a lot of help from us”.

The shutdown is now in its fifth week. Republicans still refuse to compromise on the Affordable Care Act tax credits, and Democrats aren’t giving in until they’re put in the funding bill. Without the tax credits, millions of Americans will see price hikes on their healthcare premiums. Many could lose their health insurance entirely. Our Democratic Senators and Representatives aren’t going to allow that to happen, and are going to stand strong until the Republicans decide to protect the American people too.

To avoid shutdown negotiations, and to delay a vote on releasing the Epstein files, Republican Speaker Mike Johnson refuses to reopen the House for its regular business. House Republicans have quite literally run away from D.C.
