Annie: A Voice of Strength

This National Bullying Prevention Month, we’re highlighting Annie, a Thrive Together teen who faced weight bias and bullying in middle school. Despite the challenges, she found her confidence and learned that the only opinion that truly matters is her own. Annie’s story reminds us that no one should face bullying or weight stigma alone. By fostering inclusion and respect, we can help every young person feel seen and supported. Read Annie’s full story on our blog.

Advocacy Updates

Advocates Push for Obesity Care Access

This month, advocates gathered at the Massachusetts State House to highlight the need for cost-effective obesity treatment. Rep. Marjorie Decker and panelists, including OAC Board Member Dr. Angela Fitch and Patient Advocate Michael Donnelly-Boylen, shared their expertise and experiences. All MA residents can take the action and make a difference, even if the issue only impacts state workers. Contact Governor Healy and your legislators

Your Voice Matters: Help Advance the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act (TROA)

Congressional offices are open, and the OAC is holding multiple virtual Hill meetings to advance the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act. TROA is gaining momentum and cosponsors, but your voice is essential to keep the pressure on. Explore the latest TROA map, find your members of Congress and take action today to support this critical legislation.

Seeing Beyond Body Size

John Candy was more than his size—he was a beloved actor, father and friend, yet much of the world couldn’t see past his weight. Weight bias isn’t just hurtful—it’s harmful, and millions living with obesity today face the same scrutiny and discrimination Candy endured. Read our full blog to learn how we can challenge weight stigma together.

Support Obesity Care in Kentucky

Kentucky Medicaid currently cannot cover FDA-approved obesity medications, leaving thousands without access to evidence-based care. Removing this outdated ban would give healthcare providers the tools to help patients manage obesity as a chronic disease. Take action now using OAC’s advocacy tool to support coverage before the public comment period closes on November 9!
