The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Research Administration Section is looking for innovative and forward-thinking research ideas for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027-2029 research program. We encourage you to submit ideas that will help MDOT improve safety, mobility, sustainability, and equity across the transportation system.

Don’t miss your chance to contribute and fill out a research idea form on our Program Development Portal by October 31, 2025.

As outlined in the research project development process MDOT executives and technical experts will review the submittals and select research ideas that warrant further consideration.  The very best research ideas will be further developed during spring Program Development Meetings and eventually issued as competitive Requests for Proposals in 2027 and 2028.
