They’re coming for our voter data.Bright America supporters are funding the front-line defense against voter-data overreach—and a major accountability project we’ll unveil this weekend.Over the last nine months, the stakes for American democracy have only risen. And I’ve got another alarming example for you, one that’s probably not on your radar. The Department of Justice, under direction from the Trump administration, has been pushing states to hand over complete voter rolls — including sensitive personal information like driver’s license numbers and partial Social Security numbers. The federal government hasn’t needed this information to ensure secure elections before, and it doesn’t need it now — especially with the privacy risks that invite misuse and fuel disinformation. Here’s the good news: because of you, our strategic high-impact litigation movement has already sprung into action. Bright America’s grassroots community helps power our strategic partner Campaign Legal Center (CLC) — which is working with the Brennan Center for Justice and the League of Women Voters to fight this abuse of power. Together, they’ve moved to intervene in DOJ’s lawsuits in Maine and New York — states that have refused to handover their voters’ sensitive data — to stop this fishing expedition and protect voter privacy. Maine’s and New York’s election officials already run secure systems; there’s no legitimate need for Washington to sweep up troves of personal data that could be abused or spun into false fraud narratives. What your support is doing RIGHT NOW:
We are building a pro-democracy coalition that insists on ethical government, secure elections, and respect for the rule of law. That means investing — morally and financially — in partners with the expertise to act fast when abuse threatens voter privacy or tilts the playing field. This is one of those moments. The next move is oursIf you believe — as we do — that free citizens, not data-mining power plays, should decide our future, then lean in with us:
Every contribution keeps this defense line strong and this movement growing — court by court, state by state, neighbor by neighbor. Because the truth is, we all have a stake in the future of this country, we all need it to succeed — for our kids, our grandkids, for ourselves. And that’s why each of us should also have a stake in the solution, which is taking these abuses on in the only place that can stop it (at the moment): the courts. By investing in this movement, you’re joining a huge community of Americans who want to do more than sit around and complain — we want to take have a stake in the solution, too. Let’s keep building a country where rules are fair, leaders are accountable, and no one — no one — is above the law. |
