The Trump administration is making major changes to established vaccination policies and Allegheny County public health officials and care providers are now the last line of defense against federal actions ([link removed]) they say are creating confusion and barriers to access.
“People are looking at vaccines in an isolated way, versus thinking about the disease that they are preventing,” said Barbara Nightingale, the deputy director of clinical services at the Allegheny County Health Department. “Not being vaccinated puts you at higher risk for something that could be prevented.”
County officials are using billboards and social media to combat misinformation ([link removed]) about vaccines and coordinating their efforts with pro-vaccination advocates including the Allegheny County Immunization Coalition.
