[ [link removed] ]Thick smoke rises from a scorched Amazon forest floor as flames
continue to burn through dry vegetation. The scene shows charred trees and
haze, capturing the destructive impact of a wildfire used as a means of
illegal deforestation.

John,

The Amazon rainforest is burning. Forests are being razed for beef, soy,
and industrial agriculture – and the EU is about to make it even worse.

Right now, the European Commission is RACING to approve and sign the
disastrous EU-Mercosur trade deal – a toxic pact with Brazil, Argentina,
Paraguay, and Uruguay that will supercharge deforestation, worsen the
climate crisis, and trample Indigenous rights.

If the deal goes through, it will lock in a Bolsonaro-era dream to destroy
the Amazon for cheap beef, soy, wood, and other products. We can’t let it
happen.

The good news? We still have a short window to stop it. But we need to act
fast. So here’s the plan: we could launch a European “toxic tour” in key
countries like France, mobilising communities, launching investigations,
and pushing leaders to block ratification before a critical vote just
WEEKS away.

Opposition from French farmers stopped this deal before and it isn’t too
late to stop this death sentence for the Amazon again, but it’s going to
take all of us to do it.

Can you urgently chip in to fuel our work to defend the Amazon and the
natural world?

The trade deal between the EU and Mercosur (Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay,
and Paraguay) would allow commodities from those countries to be
fast-tracked into Europe, fattening corporate pockets on both sides.

Negotiations on the deal have dragged on for decades, stalled by countries
like France warning that their farmers would be undercut by cheap imports
from nations with lower costs and looser rules on the environment, health,
animal welfare, pesticides, and labour.

But the Commission has proposed a workaround to get the opposition on
board and a vote could now be just WEEKS away. Sources say the President
of the European Commission desperately wants to sign the agreement to
great fanfare on December 5 in Brazil at the Mercosur summit, giving us
just a few weeks to ramp up the pressure on key countries like France to
block this nightmare deal.

Time is short. The Commission is moving fast, and lobbyists for
agribusiness are pushing hard. But if we raise enough now, we could
counter them with a powerful people’s campaign that politicians can’t
ignore.

We’re already working with partners to mobilize in huge numbers in key
countries like France – attracting the attention of decision-makers and
the media. And now we need to race to release hard-hitting research and
investigations to expose how the deal will devastate the Amazon and
undercut climate action.

It’s not too late to stop this deadly deal, protect the Amazon, and keep
fighting to defend our natural world. But it’s going ot take ALL of us to
do it. Can you rush a donation to help?

Your donation will help power Ekō and our campaigns worldwide fighting for
people and the planet.

This is a fight we know how to win. Remember TTIP? When the EU and US
were on the verge of signing an agreement that would’ve flooded Europe
with hormone-treated meat and GMO produce, our movement joined a
three-million-strong citizens’ movement to stop it – and got the deal
called off.

Thanks for all that you do,
Allison and the Ekō team
