There is an unmistakable throughline across the actions taken by the Trump
administration and their Republican allies: The cruelty is the point.

When they snatch our immigrant neighbors off the streets and subject them
to inhumane conditions under unlawful detention, the cruelty is the point.

When they illegally fire public servants who are already going without
paychecks because of the GOP shutdown, the cruelty is the point.

When they pass legislation that will prevent parents from being able to
take their babies to the doctor or put food on the table, the cruelty is
the point.

When they advance policies that make people hungrier, poorer, sicker, and
less safe, the cruelty is the point.

It is wholesale, widespread policy violence on a massive scale. And it
calls for a massive response.

I will keep doing everything I can to strengthen our resistance against
this Administration’s callousness and contempt. As a Congresswoman, and as
a human being who gives a damn about other human beings, it’s my duty to
stand in the gap against Trump and his co-conspirators.

Dr. King taught us that the antidote to cruelty and chaos is our beloved

As people of conscience, we must grow our movement centered in love and
righteous indignation. We must fight for our neighbors and our loved ones.
We must dig deep and begin the process of healing at the local level.

We must, and we will. 

And together, we will show that the power of the people is always greater
than the people in power.
