It’s Day 27 of the Schumer Shutdown. The Senate is back in session, and Republicans are pressing to reopen the government at the current Biden spending levels (which seems incredibly reasonable) while we negotiate the twelve new appropriation bills. Democrats continue to demand billions in new insurance company subsidies to prop up the so-called, “Affordable Care Act.”
Since Democrats ask for more taxpayer money every year to keep the price of health care from exploding, do you think at some point they should change the name of their health care bill and the remove the word “affordable”?
While we work to get out of this year’s mess, I continue to push my Prevent Government Shutdowns Act, which would make sure we never have another government shutdown again, ever. Withholding federal workers’ pay and cutting off SNAP benefits should not be negotiating leverage, or as my Democratic colleagues have stated, families are going to have to “suffer” so they can get “negotiating leverage.”
We can and should have a conversation about solutions for the skyrocketing costs of health care in our nation, but we first need to reopen the government. We can do both. It's clear the Affordable Care Act is not affordable, but just handing insurance companies money does not make individual health insurance more affordable.
This morning, the largest government union asked Democrats in the Senate to vote for the Republican clean continuing resolution to get the government back open. I hope that is a breakthrough moment. It’s time to get back to work passing appropriation bills, not just protesting.

Please keep praying for the nation and pray for discernment and wisdom for my Democratic colleagues so we can get back to serving the American people with the government fully operational. Until we can get the votes to reopen the government, we will work to confirm President Trump’s judicial nominees.
