John,
When we told you last week that Louisiana Republicans were asking the Supreme Court to ban the use of race in redistricting, we meant it — because this case could change everything.
Louisiana Republicans are asking the Court to throw out the Voting Rights Act’s protections for minority voters — the very protections that forced them to finally draw fair maps in the first place. If they win, it could open the door for Republicans to redraw up to 19 congressional districts to lock in their power — including five right here in Texas.
It’s the same playbook we’ve seen before: silence voters, protect the powerful, and rig the system to stay in charge.
But here’s what they still don’t get: people power can’t be silenced.
At Powered by People, we don’t sit around waiting for permission to fight back. We organize. We register voters. We show up in communities where politicians have written people off and remind them that their voice still matters.
Because no matter how they try to rewrite the rules, they can’t stop Texans — and folks all across this country — from showing up and taking power into our own hands.
We’ve done it before — and we can do it again. But we need to be ready now, before the Court hands down its decision.
Thank you,
