Resources Available During Republicans’ Government Shutdown

Dear Neighbor,

I wanted to take a moment to share some resources available to you during this Trump-Republican government shutdown and extend my efforts to support you and your families during this time. Due to the cruelty of Trump and his Republican co-conspirators, our communities have suffered under their government shutdown for nearly one month.

Meanwhile, I‘m doing everything I can to protect your healthcare while awaiting Republicans at the negotiating table to re-open the government. For more information about the government shutdown and its impact on federal services, please visit pressley.house.gov/govshutdown.

Here are some resources available to you as we navigate this together.

Utility Payment Support for Federal Workers & Contractors

I’ve been calling on National Grid and Eversource to make sure the electricity and heat stay on for families who are missing paychecks under this government shutdown—that means no shutoffs, no late fees, and no interest.

In moments of financial hardship, folks deserve relief, not more strain. And our federal workers, federal contractors, and the people who depend on them should not be punished for Republicans’ cruel political games.

In response to my request, National Grid has announced a new payment plan opportunity specifically for federal employees, contractors, and active military personnel in Massachusetts impacted by the shutdown.

If you fall into one of these categories and are concerned about paying your energy bill, call 1-800-322-3223 or visit www.nationalgridus.com/MA-Home/here-for-you for more info.

Know Your Rights as a Federal Worker

Federal government workers are protected from whistleblower retaliation under U.S. law, including for: being fired or laid off, intimidation, denying benefits, and interfering with employee’s ability to obtain future employment.

The Whistleblower Protection Act permits current and former executive branch employees to report wrongdoings, including violation of any law, rule, or regulation, coercing political activity, censorship related to scientific research, gross mismanagement, an abuse of authority, and more.

Please go to my website and share your experience at Pressley.House.gov/ShareYourStory. I’m fighting for you because I know that your lives and livelihoods are at stake, and I am here to support you.
