Every missed deadline brings them closer to extinction.

John,

Today we want to highlight a small piece of the federal government that you might not think about every day, but whose work has a profound impact on the survival of endangered species.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is responsible for deciding whether at-risk animals receive protection under the Endangered Species Act, one of the most important conservation laws in history. But right now, that mission is in danger.

Between staff cuts and the ongoing government shutdown, the agency is missing key deadlines to determine which species deserve protection, putting vulnerable wildlife at even greater risk.

Will you chip in now to help our SEEC members fight to protect our endangered species?

Take the Bornean earless monitor, a rare lizard on the brink of extinction. The Fish and Wildlife Service was supposed to decide this summer whether to list it as threatened or endangered. That deadline came and went, and no action was taken.

And it’s not just one species. Across the country, animals like the Monarch butterfly and the red wolf are waiting for protections that keep getting delayed because of politics and neglect. Every missed deadline means another species edges closer to extinction.

Our SEEC members in Congress are fighting to fully fund the agencies that protect wildlife. But they need your help to keep up the fight.
