Hey RG,
ICE is terrorizing big cities and small towns, the National Guard is menacing Portland, Memphis and DC, and the government, our big, flawed redistributive machine is shut down. We’re writing with guidance, solidarity and direction for the coming weeks, and an affirmation that when things get hard, RG members band together and get brave. This is a moment to reach out, move through the paralysis caused by the compounding crisis, and tap into the organizing principle that action is oxygen —one deep breath leads to more!
Here are some next steps:
* Resisting the ICE Raids —ICE is targeting people based on skin color, and executing terrifying, sweeping raids with masked agents in the middle of the night. We’re hearing reports from Chicago that power in numbers is working! People are showing strength in the streets, filming ICE and interrupting their kidnapping, and turning public opinion against them. * Learn: “They Came for our Neighbors, We showed Up [[link removed]] ” - This account from Kelly Hayes, Chicago based writer and organizer details what it took to interrupt ICE activity in her neighborhood, and the tactics (whistles! Signal threads!) they’re using to resist.
* Take Action: Pledge to Protect and Resist [[link removed]] and ask your chapter how to connect to local ICE watch and response efforts
* Send $: The National Bail Fund Network [[link removed]] has a directory of Immigration Bail Funds around the country
* 42 million people could face disruptions to their SNAP benefits starting Nov 1st if Congress doesn’t negotiate to re-open the federal government. This means our friends and neighbors will lose access to critical funds, and one of the only government programs that is supposed to provide support to anyone who needs it. * Learn: What is Mutual Aid? [[link removed]] Learn about mutual aid, how it helps meet immediate needs, prepares us for the next crisis and and builds local power
* Take Action and Send $: Get involved and support a local mutual aid network [[link removed]] or a local aid effort [[link removed]]
* Finally, don’t know where to begin? Feeling stuck, disconnected or small in the face of the threats? * Join us on Nov. 6th for A Wealthy Class Traitors Guide to Solidarity Under Fascism [[link removed]] . We’ll be hearing from the Resource Generation chapter in DC about how they moved quickly to support the ecosystem of organizations resisting the occupation of DC by the National Guard, and building clarity and conviction with each other to move into action.
In solidarity,
The Resource Generation Organizing Team
