** First Star Marks 25 Years of Impact
------------------------------------------------------------
** with a Day of Insight and Inspiration
------------------------------------------------------------
On Tuesday, October 21, First Star marked a milestone, celebrating 25 years of transforming the lives of youth and young adults who have experienced foster care.
The day began with our inaugural Lunch & Learn: Building Pathways to College and Career Readiness for Youth in Care, which brought together more than 80 educators, advocates, policymakers, and practitioners, including keynote speaker Dr. Tyrone Howard. All present were united by a shared commitment to creating brighter futures for young people impacted by foster care.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, and a special thanks to the UCLA Pritzker Center and UCLA for partnering with us on this event.

That evening, the celebration continued at the Mountaingate Country Club, where supporters, alumni, board members, and friends gathered for First Star’s 25th Anniversary Celebration. The energy in the room reflected the deep connection, strong community, and shared commitment that define First Star and make it a true family.
The program honored Founder Peter Samuelson, whose vision ignited 25 years of impact, and Emmy-winning filmmaker Shaun Kadlec, director of Possible Selves, for helping bring national attention to the stories of First Star youth. Guests were most inspired by the voices of First Star Alumni, whose courage, achievements, and dreams continue to guide our mission forward.
To everyone who attended, contributed, or celebrated with us from afar, thank you. Your support ensures that First Star can continue to create opportunities and provide the tools and support for youth and young adults with foster care experience to transition to self-sufficiency through higher education or other viable pathways.
If you were unable to attend but would like to support our work, it is not too late to make an impact.
