Police released images of the SUV. They said the incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Friday, near Pico Boulevard and Fox Hills Drive in West L.A. Investigators said a 2011 to 2018 black Audi Q3 traveling westbound on Pico struck a 74-year-old woman in a marked crosswalk. The woman died at the scene and the driver took off. "The driver of the Audi failed to stop, identify themselves, and render aid to the pedestrian as required by law," said LAPD in a press release. "A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender's identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise." ABC 7 Wrong-way driver reportedly slams into car on San Pedro bridge; separate crash kills teen A woman reportedly drove the wrong way on the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro late Saturday and crashed into a car carrying five people including a baby. The suspect, who was driving a white SUV eastbound in the westbound lanes of the bridge, was arrested at the scene. A witness near the incident said the vehicle that was struck carried four adults and a child, according to ABC7, and one person was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Not far from the scene, an unrelated accident turned deadly on Saturday night. Around 11 p.m., a driver lost control of their Mustang after driving at high speeds, leading them to crash into a power pole at 22nd Street and Harbor Boulevard in San Pedro, according to Los Angeles police. A teen in the passenger seat died from injuries sustained in the crash, police said. The driver, a juvenile, sustained minor injuries and was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter. A spokesperson with the Los Angeles Police Department said detectives were investigating the crash.  Los Angeles Times LAPD disperses large 'unorderly' crowd in downtown LA; Waymo car damaged, police say Police broke up a large crowd Saturday night of what they say is about 1,000 people near Grand Park in downtown Los Angeles. The crowd appeared to come from Thrasher Magazine's "Halloween Hell Bomb" skater event. Officers responded to the scene after being called by the L.A. Department of Transportation when the large crowds began to flood the streets near Grand Park, according to LAPD. LAPD says that when officers arrived, the crowd started throwing rocks and bottles. Police called for backup and formed a skirmish line. They were able to disperse the crowd using less lethal rounds. During the incident, a Waymo car got stuck in the middle of the crowd and was damaged, LAPD said. At least one person was arrested. No further details were immediately known. ABC 7 Large police operation carried out in San Pedro The Los Angeles Police Department Harbor Division says it was conducting a large operation Friday targeting criminal activity in San Pedro. The LAPD was collaborating with several federal agencies, including the U.S. Marshals, who were the primary agency of the operation. Multiple locations connected to criminal activity in the area were targeted, according to police. "This is tied to criminal activity & is in no way immigration related," wrote LAPD Captain Brent McGuyre. Details on who the operation was targeting were not immediately available. NBC 4 DUI driver leads Los Angeles police pursuit through San Fernando Valley and Ventura County A two-county police pursuit ended with the arrest of the 27-year-old driver near Santa Barbara County on Friday night. The Los Angeles Police Department started the pursuit in North Hollywood on suspicion of DUI and possession of a firearm. The driver, identified as Luchiano Antonio Lewis Villanueva, fled from officers. Villanueva led the LAPD through city streets and nearly every freeway between Sun Valley and Woodland Hills until the California Highway Patrol took over. The pursuit continued for another 15 miles before the CHP used a spike strip to slow Villanueva down. Villanueva was eventually forced to stop on the right shoulder of the 101 Freeway near Seacliff Avenue. Villanueva was taken into custody and transferred to the LAPD. Police say he now faces various charges, including suspicion of being under the influence of drugs.  CBS 2 Sentencing Due for SFV Man Who Packed Meth-Caked Clothing in Suitcases at LAX A San Fernando Valley man faces sentencing Monday for possessing two suitcases containing more than a dozen clothing items — including a cow pajama onesie — caked in methamphetamine while preparing to board a flight from Los Angeles International Airport to Australia. Raj Matharu, 32, of Northridge, pleaded guilty in June in downtown Los Angeles to one federal count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Matharu faces between 10 years and life in federal prison, according to court papers. On Nov. 6, 2024, Matharu planned to travel from Los Angeles to Sydney. He carried with him two suitcases filled with clothing that had been coated with nearly 2.4 pounds of methamphetamine, federal prosecutors said. After arriving at LAX, Matharu was told his bags were overweight and opened both suitcases to shift items between them — an act captured by airport surveillance cameras. He then successfully checked his luggage containing the meth-soaked clothes, according to his plea agreement filed in Los Angeles federal court. Thomas Duran of the El Reno Police Department has died a week after he was struck by a vehicle while speaking with a pedestrian on the side of the road, KOCO reported. Duran, who had been hospitalized in critical condition since the Oct. 17 hit-and-run, died at 6:36 p.m. on Oct. 24, the department confirmed. He was remembered by fellow officers and departments across the state for his service, sacrifice and continued dedication through organ donation. “It is with great sadness that I report... Sgt. Thomas Duran has passed away,” said Mark Nelson, president of the Oklahoma Fraternal Order of Police. “The organ donation process has begun and we trust that Thomas is being held in the loving arms of his Savior.” In a statement, the El Reno Police Department said Duran’s decision to be an organ donor will help others. “Sgt. Duran, even in death, continues to serve with selfless dedication,” the department wrote. PoliceOne Video shows dramatic rescue of baby pinned under overturned car in Texas A baby is expected to make a full recovery after being pulled from under a vehicle that had flipped during a crash, authorities said Friday after releasing dramatic video that showed the rescue effort along a busy highway. Officers responded to the scene Thursday morning after getting reports that the child and mother had been ejected from the car. Body camera footage shared Friday on social media by the Fort Worth Police Department shows an officer running toward the overturned car and beginning to search for the child as a distraught woman can be heard in the background yelling for her baby. The officer rallied other motorists who had stopped at the scene to help him lift the car. “Under here, we need to move the car,” the officer tells them, saying he thinks the child is pinned underneath. “Keep moving, keep moving,” the officer urges them as the car is lifted just enough for him to grab the child’s leg and pull it to safety. The child was unresponsive, but one officer said he felt a pulse. They attempted to get the baby to take a breath, with one officer using his fingers to push on the child’s chest. The baby eventually began to make noises and then started to cry. Associated Press Public Safety News Mayor Bass appoints new Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Mayor Karen Bass appointed Deputy Chief Jaime Moore to be the new head of the Los Angeles Fire Department on Friday. Moore, who joined the LAFD in 1995, was the commander of operations for the department's Valley Bureau prior to the promotion. "Chief Moore is a proven and admired firefighter," Bass said. "Our work together will focus on reforming the LAFD to better prepare Los Angeles for major emergencies and the upcoming major events coming to our region. And also, we will work to improve responses to 911 calls, citywide. I'm proud to appoint an Angeleno to this role and I know that he will work to improve the LAFD for everyone in the city." While he was born in Louisiana, Moore grew up in a Mexican-American household in LA. He graduated from Santa Monica High School and attended UCLA. He delivered remarks in both English and Spanish during the press conference for his promotion. CBS 2 Man critical after falling onto train tracks in downtown Los Angeles  A man is in critical condition after he fell onto train tracks in downtown L.A. early Sunday, according to authorities. The incident occurred along the Metro A Line – also referred to as the Blue Line – just after 12:30 a.m. at the Chinatown station, the Los Angeles Fire Department said. LAFD referred to the incident as having taken place along the “Gold Line,” which is what the route used to be called before the Regional Connector tunnel opened in 2023. Per the fire department, the man, who is 40 years old, was hospitalized in critical condition. All train traffic was stopped so crews could rescue the man but service resumed after the operation was completed. There was no indication as to what caused the man to fall onto the tracks. KTLA 5 1 hospitalized after vehicle crashes into apartment building in Beverly Grove One person was hospitalized after a vehicle crashed into an apartment building in Los Angeles’ Beverly Grove neighborhood Saturday. Authorities responded to reports of a crash near Orange Street and Sweetzer Avenue shortly after 5:30 p.m. Footage from the scene showed that a Land Rover Defender 90 SUV had crashed into the front steps of the apartment building and tipped over against a tree. An old Volkswagen Beetle was also left with serious damage to the driver’s side. Los Angeles Fire Department officials confirmed one person was transported to a local trauma center for treatment. A large amount of auto debris was scattered across the roadway as a small crowd of neighbors looked on. No further details, including the cause of the crash, were released by authorities as the incident remains under investigation. Authorities confirmed that Building and Safety inspectors were requested to assess any structural damage. KTLA 5 Vermont Knolls Bungalow Fire Leaves One Injured One person suffered burns Monday when a fire broke out in one unit of a row of bungalows in the Vermont Knolls area of Los Angeles. The fire was reported at 1:26 a.m. at 436 W. 79th St., between Flower and Figueroa streets, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart. The flames were out at 1:44 a.m., Stewart said. The patient was taken to a hospital by paramedics, she added. The patient’s gender, age and condition were not available. MyNewsLA Fire damages multiple units at 2-story West LA storage facility Fire on Sunday damaged both levels and multiple units in a large, two-story self-storage facility in West Los Angeles, authorities said. Firefighters dispatched at 6:27 a.m. Sunday to 11406 W. Exposition Blvd., just west of the 405 Freeway, had the fire out at 7:58 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. "The second level floor is compromised, requiring firefighters to create access holes," the LAFD's Margaret Stewart said. "Crews will be on scene for an extended duration as they locate and extinguish any remaining hotspots." No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
