John, our first legal challenge is here.
In case you missed it: we launched the Transparent Election Initiative, a new legal strategy that could make Citizens United irrelevant across all 50 states, a few short months ago.
Since then, we’ve made great strides on “The Montana Plan,” and over 6,000 of you across the country have stepped up to support us on this journey!
However, we’ve hit our first challenge in our certification process. The Attorney General’s office has deemed our language “legally insufficient,” giving us 10 days to appeal their decision.
But we know this shouldn’t be an issue. I served as the Commissioner of Political Practices here in Montana, and we utilized my in-depth knowledge of state law, as well as detailed guidance from lawyers every step of the way, to carefully craft every page.
That’s why we’re announcing today that we’re appealing the decision of the Attorney General’s office in order to allow our initiative to move forward.
We only have 10 days to overcome this hurdle, John, so we’re reaching out with an emergency ask for our legal fund. Can you chip in today so we can move forward with The Montana Plan?
Thank you for your continued support of our mission to make Citizens United irrelevant and restore our democracy.
