Team,

The federal government is shut down because Republicans – despite controlling the White House, the Senate, and the House – refuse to govern. And they have an inexplicable, long-running hostility toward families being able to get health care.

President Trump is out of the country and Speaker Johnson has kept the House clear of D.C. for what’s going on six weeks now. The Speaker won’t allow his members to even try to solve this because he’s petrified of what else might reach the floor – like a vote to release the Trump/Epstein files.

The truth is that Republicans have created a health care nightmare for American families. Unless Republicans come to the negotiating table, health insurance premiums will double for families across the country next year, and Medicare and Medicaid will take major hits.

Right now, Democrats are trying to start addressing the Republican-created health care crisis by extending the Affordable Care Act tax credits that keep insurance within families’ budgets. The GOP should want this – their own constituents are getting notices about massive premium increases!

But instead, they’ve shut down the federal government to avoid doing anything about the pending cost cliff.

Extending the Affordable Care credits solves just one part of the problem. Republicans’ Beautiful-for-Billionaires bill cuts almost a trillion dollars from Medicaid to bankroll tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. Their law also imposed $500+ billion in automatic cuts to Medicare starting next year.

Democrats are doing everything we can to swiftly end both the Republican-created health care cost crisis and the misery of this Trump shutdown.

For the good of the country, Republicans need to start doing their jobs.

This is a really challenging time for our country. But we will get through it, together. Thank you for standing with me.
