| Dear John,
We recently told you about all the exciting moments you may have missed from our Autumn Conference in Bournemouth. If you missed it, you can read the email here.
A core function of Conference is to pass new policies that we will take to the country.
Unlike other parties, our members vote on policies that are binding. Why? Because when real people with real experiences guide decision-making, we create the most effective policies for all.
We passed 22 new policies in Bournemouth to help build a safer, fairer, and more prosperous country and world.
Find out about what we’re fighting for below - and if you’re inspired, why not join our party to help make them a reality? | | 🤝 Making the UK-EU reset summit count Nearly five years on, the Conservatives’ botched Brexit deal continues to hold back British people, our businesses and our economy. Our policy calls for much more ambition to truly restore our relations.
We will: Agree a much bolder deal with the EU, including through negotiating a bespoke UK-EU Customs Union, backing a Youth Mobility Scheme, and expanding defence-industrial cooperation. | | 🚑 Getting emergency care back on track Our NHS emergency services are in crisis – with patients dying in A&E waiting rooms, hours-long ambulance delays, and unsafe ‘corridor care’ becoming routine. Our new policy will restore dignity for patients, protect NHS staff, and save lives.
We will: Save emergency health services by ending corridor care, fixing the broken social care system, tackling staff shortages, protecting ambulance services and taking other essential measures. | | 🚨 Policing fit for the future Years of Conservative neglect weakened our police forces and the public’s faith in their ability to keep us safe. Our policy seeks to restore policing, putting public safety first, ensuring everyone can feel safe in their home and on their street.
We will: Reduce the pressure on the police and justice system by tackling court backlogs, reducing reoffending, and prioritising crime prevention, while taking bold action to keep people safe, from improving responses to violence against women and girls to fighting rural crime. | | ☕ Backing hospitality for growth and jobs Hospitality businesses are vital for jobs, economic growth, and thriving communities – our new policy backs hospitality, helping pubs, cafés, restaurants, and hotels not just survive, but thrive - supporting local jobs and boosting the economy.
We will: Boost small and medium-sized hospitality businesses by helping them invest, supporting skills development, and reforming business rates and taxes, among other measures. | | 🫂 Building a fair asylum system The UK’s asylum system is failing, leaving people fleeing conflict stuck in temporary housing, unable to work, and separated from their loved ones. Our new policy gives practical solutions to clear up the broken system left by the Conservatives.
We will: End the use of asylum hotels by clearing the backlog, lift the ban on employment for asylum seekers, restore family reunion pathways, tackle dangerous crossings, and reaffirm our commitment to the ECHR. | | ⚖️ Improving access to justice Years of cuts have hollowed out the legal aid system, leaving millions without access to timely legal advice. Our new policy will make legal aid a guaranteed right, so no one is left without help.
We will: Establish a new legal right to affordable, reasonable legal aid, and improve access by making the system simpler and ensuring everyone can access support in their community. | | 🫶 Protecting our hospices Hospices provide compassionate end of life care for hundreds of thousands of people each year, while easing pressure on overstretched NHS hospitals. After years of underfunding and rising costs, our new policy will secure the future of hospice care.
We will: Support hospices by exempting them from the Employer’s National Insurance hike, tackling staff shortages, and helping their finances, while better supporting families and the bereaved. | | 🌱 Backing youth work to build communities Youth work changes lives by providing safe spaces, building skills, and improving life chances for young people. Our policy backs youth work by calling on the Government to prioritise it in their upcoming National Youth Strategy.
We will: Support youth work with a long-term funding settlement, a workforce and training strategy, help for charity-run youth services, and other steps. | | | Read about all the policies passed at Autumn Conference: | | Can you help make these policies a reality, John? | | As the Conservatives crumble and Reform divide, it’s clear the Liberal Democrats are the only party stepping up as a strong, effective opposition to this Labour Government, with practical solutions to improve people’s lives.
Every day, we’re fighting for policies like those above, to build the liberal Britain we believe in. Join us and help make them a reality.
As a member, you’ll also be able to attend our future Conferences and shape our policy yourself! | | | Already a Member? Get in touch to let us know at [email protected] so that we can check your record. | | | Liberal Democrats
