SENATE UPDATE: Shutdown Week 5

Senate Democrats Choose “Groups” Over Troops

The Shutdown

Ostensibly, Senate Democrats shut down the federal government this month over Covid-era Obamacare subsidies that are about to expire. But like so much of the Left’s messaging these days, that’s a lie.

The shutdown isn’t about health care — or any policy. It’s about “The Groups.”

That’s the term Democrat politicians use for elite, left-wing special interests. The Groups fund and staff Democrats’ campaigns — and decide who gets primary challenges. The Groups do not really suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome — they revel in it. Hating the president — and conservatives — has become their whole identity.

The Groups want this shutdown not as a political strategy, but as a kind of therapy session. That’s why the shutdown is entering its fifth week with no end in sight. It’s why Democrats are talking more about the new White House ballroom than Obamacare.

And it’s why Senate Republicans are right to force Democrats to show the American people just how crazy they have become. Last week, the Senate called up Sen. Ron Johnson’s (R-WI) bill to pay active duty military personnel during the shutdown. Democrats voted it down.

They care more about The Groups than the troops. That’s good for the country to know heading into 2026 and 2028. More targeted spending bills should be on the way — and more clarity about the Left’s dangerous, anti-American “Groups Therapy” shutdown.

Conservative Spotlight

TED CRUZ — Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is officially in Beast Mode, going after the Biden Administration’s Censorship Industrial Complex. Fresh off revelations last week that Biden’s FBI spied on Cruz himself, he announced another hearing about Biden’s collusion with Big Tech to throttle dissent on social media. Cruz’s Commerce Committee will be grilling executives from Meta and Google about how they silenced conservatives — and who in the Biden Administration told them to.

ERIC SCHMITT — Superstar conservative Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) will lead a must-see hearing of his own this week. His Judiciary subcommittee will be digging into the growing threat of left-wing political violence. The Daily Wire’s Michael Knowles will testify to the subcommittee about the time Antifa tried to bomb one of his speeches.

RICK SCOTT — Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) is working to crack down on student visas for Chinese nationals. It’s well known that the Chinese Communist Party uses exchange students to gather intel against the U.S. Scott wrote to President Trump last week, urging the Administration to stop issuing new visas to Chinese students and to begin removing those already here, especially any working in critical national security fields.

This Week

The Senate has two votes scheduled for the week so far, both on judicial nominations. Other Trump nominees are also set for votes.

Senate leaders may also call up more targeted spending bills — to pay TSA agents or other essential federal employees during the Schumer Shutdown.
