Sarah for Iowa

Sarah Trone Garriott here. This will be a little different from the other emails in your inbox, but I wanted to talk to you about something that matters a whole lot to me — and it’s about having fun while campaigning.

A lot of politicians and groups will fill your inbox with the bad news of the day and use it to scare you into thinking the sky is falling. That’s not how I do things.

There are plenty of reasons to be concerned about the direction our country is going. Especially when politicians like Zach Nunn have lost sight of the job they were elected to do and are putting their party leaders ahead of their constituents.

But let me tell you, I have talked to thousands of Iowans across the district throughout this campaign – and day after day, I am filled with hope.

It fills me with hope when I knock on one of my neighbors’ doors and they tell me about how, despite everything, they are still showing up to protest, to register voters, and to support candidates who will stand up for them in Washington.

It fills me with hope when members of my community take the time out of their busy days to attend one of my events and connect with me about what changes they’d like to see in our district.

It fills me with hope when I make a phone call and someone is genuinely excited to hear about a vision for our country that puts service to everyday Iowans like them first.

And it fills me with hope when someone opens one of these emails and generously donates to my campaign, putting us one step closer to flipping this battleground district blue.

I’m not here to tell you we should overlook any of the many reasons we have to be outraged. We should be disappointed in Zach Nunn for failing Iowans time and again, but if we want better leadership, we need to channel that outrage into action.

While we do that, we also can’t afford to lose touch with the joy that we can find when we come together. And that’s why I have made it a central tenet of all of my campaigns to have fun on the trail and bring a little bit more positivity into the lives of the people I interact with.

I have to get back out on the road to talk with folks in Iowa’s third congressional district about the stakes of this race. Before I do, I have to ask: if you’re fed up with the polarization and negativity plaguing our country and want a new generation of leaders who actually represent Iowa to serve in Congress, can you please donate to my campaign today? We’re coming up on our end-of-month deadline soon, and every contribution makes a difference.
