Last weekend, two of the leading Republican candidates for Governor promised to take away MaineCare if elected.
Let me repeat that: my opponents are promising to take away health care. Who does that? My promise to you today, John, is I will fight to protect and improve health care in Maine.

I know health care is already too expensive and our system is hard to navigate — especially in our rural areas. And now President Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress are working to undermine the gains we’ve made to insure more people.
As I’ve been traveling around Maine, I’ve been hearing from Maine people who are worried about the future of health care. From moms who have to travel long distances to give birth because rural maternity wards are closing, families with kids with disabilities who are worried they will lose Medicaid coverage, to seniors who can’t afford their medicine.
I believe that every Mainer, no matter where they live or how much they earn, deserves access to affordable, high-quality health care. We must — and I will — fight every day to make health care more accessible and affordable for every Mainer.
Earlier this month, I wrote an op-ed about the need for a public insurance option, and I was so honored this week to be endorsed by a group of prominent health care leaders.
We can’t afford to let anti-health care Republicans get anywhere near the Governor’s office. Will you make a donation of $7 or whatever you can now to help me stop them?
