**THE FORUM DAILY**Local businesses in Tulsa, Oklahoma, are facing a steep drop in sales, reports Angelica Perez of La Semana [link removed] and KOSU [link removed]. The reason: Increased immigration enforcement has left much of the city's Latino population feeling anxious about leaving their homes and moving about freely in their community.

"I imagine people don’t want to buy things, invest in stuff, buy cars for the reason of ‘I could be deported,’" said Rey Villalobos, a local business owner.

A Catholic church in Washington, D.C., is seeing a similar chilling effect, report Luis Andres Henao and Tiffany Stanley of the Associated Press [link removed].

"Our role here at the church has changed, also dramatically. Because we have so many people who are adversely affected by that situation, we cannot possibly go on as business as usual," said the Rev. Emilio Biosca.

Boston is among the cities where immigration enforcement is putting a damper on home buying, including among legal residents, Lindsay Crudele reports in The Boston Globe [link removed].

In St. Louis, a coalition of churches known as the Immigrant and Refugee Ministry created an accompaniment program to support people as they go through the complex U.S. immigration system, reports Laura Kosta of the St. Louis Review [link removed].

Volunteers in the program will show up when requested to offer support, take notes and provide translations or transportation for immigrants meeting with Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE).

"A lot of people in the current environment are feeling nervous, and so just being able to have someone physically present in the room helps to bring a lot of reassurance, at least in the moment, to just make people feel a little less alone in the process," said accompaniment program coordinator Annie Aeschbacher.
