We know what happened and we know why it happened (for the most part). Pearl Harbor is attacked, the United States enters the war, and so on. Everything, in hindsight, aligns. But to the moms saying goodbye to their deploying sons in 1942, there was no alignment, only the potential for loss and global catastrophe. No logical next steps. No hindsight. And no clear outcome. We are there now. There is no clear resolution to this moment. But there will be a resolution one day. Until then, we have to at least try to see what’s happening clearly enough to make decisions in the present that result in the resolution the world needs. Thus, Winners and Losers.
