Reports from The New York Times confirm that these allies are planning how the president could declare a national emergency in 2026 to “federalize” elections—wresting control away from state officials who actually run them.

Voting-rights groups call this exactly what it is: “a federal strategy to control elections and rig our democracy.” This is not reform; it is a power grab disguised as one.

Put these two efforts together—control over elections and control over the military—and the picture is terrifyingly clear.
One arm consolidates political power; the other dismantles the institutions that could resist it. As Trump advisers already boast openly about a “third term,” a movement is testing how far it can push the boundaries of law and loyalty.
