If you closely follow New York politics and climate action, you've seen that Governor Hochul has been siding with the oil and gas companies more and more. Like Trump, she's choosing to ignore laws that the big polluters don't like.
Join us at an emergency rally on Tuesday to fight back against Hochul's lurch to Trumpism on climate.
Along with allies including Food & Water Watch and NYPIRG, we are calling this rally on short notice because on Friday, there were two major new developments:
1. Governor Hochul told the press at a news conference that she is considering issuing an executive order to delay New York's landmark state law that ends gas in new buildings. Hochul's being extremely shady because she says she may try to override a badly-needed law that she herself signed in 2023. New York laws are not options for New York Governors!
2. Later in the day, a state court ordered Hochul to follow the state's 2019 climate law, a law that in Trump-like fashion she has been ignoring since the beginning of 2024. The judge told her that laws aren't options for her, but it's unclear whether Hochul will follow the law and now a court order.
New York state's landmark end to gas in new construction goes into effect January 1st. If Hochul does this shady maneuver to issue an executive order to try and delay that law, she will create major turmoil in housing development while raising New Yorkers energy bills and causing a lot more pollution. And if she decides to appeal this court decision or delay acting on it, she will continue to dig New York into a deeper hole.
We need to fight back against Hochul's lurch to Trumpism! Join us at an emergency rally Tuesday at 11am.
This is all a little like when Hochul suddenly decided to ignore the congestion pricing law. Meanwhile, she's also been fast-tracking the permitting process for a giant fracked gas pipeline Trump wants her to approve. It's bad!
Trump isn't a king and Hochul isn't a Queen.
Let's tell Hochul that laws aren't options for her. She should not increase pollution and raise our bills to pad oil and gas company profits.
Join Tuesday's rally at her office. RSVP here!
