Trump’s DOJ just forced Rep. LaMonica McIver to appear in court and face charges for her effort to conduct oversight at an ICE facility earlier this year.

Let’s be clear: This is a politically motivated prosecution by a wannabe autocrat.

It’s another example of Donald Trump’s daily assault on our democracy. His goal is to silence any dissent and weaken his political opposition.

So we need to help Rep. McIver fight back. They are threatening her with up to 17 years in prison, and she expects fighting these charges to cost over a million dollars.

Trump’s plan isn’t hard to figure out. The corruption is happening in plain sight.

This month, Trump let George Santos out of jail just to make it clear that if you're loyal to him, you can get away with anything. We saw the same story with Eric Adams.

But if you try to hold him accountable, he will use whatever levers are available to make his opponents pay a price.

The prosecution of Rep. McIver isn’t a one-off. It’s a pattern — just like Trump’s attempt to demand Letitia James’ prosecution. It’s what his FCC did to get Kimmel pulled off the air. It’s the same tactic he used to quash dissent from universities and law firms.

If Trump succeeds with the prosecution of Rep. McIver, it will embolden him and set a precedent for more politically motivated prosecutions.

The good news is Rep. McIver is fighting back. She isn’t going to be bullied, but she needs to know people have her back.
