On September 23, Donald Trump issued NSPM-7, a sweeping directive aiming to criminalize dissent and ordering the FBI, IRS, and other federal law enforcement agencies to investigate a broad range of progressive nonprofits.
NSPM-7 states that organizations that espouse "anti-Americanism, anti-capitalism, and anti-Christianity," "extremism on migration, race, and gender," or opposition to "traditional American views on family, religion, and morality" are "participants in criminal and terroristic conspiracies."
What do those terms even mean?
NSPM-7 then orders FBI counter-terrorism task forces and the IRS criminal division to prioritize organizations that express these views for potential prosecution.
Under NSPM-7, no organization that dares to even mildly disagree with Trump's far-right agenda is safe, including Common Dreams. But the corporate media has almost entirely ignored the order or downplayed the threat it represents.
