🎉 Even Supt. Horne supports! That’s right, even Supt. Horne is voicing support for bonds and overrides, telling KTAR that most taxpayers won’t see tax increases since most are continuations of previously approved voter initiatives: “A lot of times these are elections to maintain things that started earlier. So, it would keep the taxes at the same level. If it’s something new, it would raise the taxes at the local level.”
SOSAZ Director Beth Lewis agreed with Supt. Horne (it’s a miracle! 😂): “My family’s paying $8 a month, which is like a cup of coffee a month, to serve 40,000 kids. To me, that’s well worth it. I want to have an educated populace.” Lewis told KTAR that if the bonds and overrides are not passed, districts may have to slash teacher pay, lay off teachers and staff, close programs, and shut down more schools. |

“For too long, politicians in Phoenix have starved our public schools while diverting public money into unaccountable private school vouchers. This year alone, over one billion dollars — yes, billion with a “B”— will be taken from Arizona’s public schools and handed to private and religious institutions. That is money that should be paying our teachers, funding our classrooms, and helping our kids succeed, not subsidizing private tuition for the wealthy few.
Prop. 414 is Tucson’s way to fight back. It creates protected, local funding that cannot be touched by partisan politicians in Phoenix or Washington. It invests directly in our students and educators by raising teacher pay so we can attract and retain the high-quality teachers our kids deserve. It funds career and technical education, as well as arts, music, and PE programs that make learning meaningful and keep students engaged.
It also expands early childhood education, pre-K, and before- and after-school programs that help families, keep kids safe, and give young learners the strong start they need. It also helps ensure that every school has counselors and social workers to address mental health challenges and help at-risk students stay on track to graduate…
Strong public schools do not just benefit students and teachers. They strengthen our neighborhoods, increase property values, and keep our local economy growing.
That is why I am asking you to vote "yes" on Prop. 414 and to get involved. Talk to your neighbors. Make calls. Volunteer. This is about more than our schools. It is about who we are as a community and what kind of future we want for Tucson.
Together, we can send a powerful message: Tucson stands up for our teachers, our students, and our public schools.” |

Stop the Extremist Civics Takeover
| |
|
👀 Keep Partisan Indoctrination Out of Schools: The Trump administration’s US Dept. of Education (US ED) announced a new MAGA-driven “patriotic education” curriculum initiative that it plans to force into classrooms across America. This is being pushed by a civics education coalition of more than 40 partner groups, all of which are closely aligned with the president’s MAGA, extremist movement — including PragerU, Moms for Liberty, the Heritage Foundation, Turning Point USA, ALEC, the Goldwater Institute, and Stephen Miller’s American First Legal. Now, US ED says it will provide discretionary grants to schools that promote ‘patriotic’ education.”
Our supporters sent hundreds of emails to the Dept. of Education over the past month, demanding a stop to this program. The time for public comment is over, but this fight is not. US ED is now reviewing public comments and will then forward the new regulation to Congress for final approval. Any member of Congress can then introduce a joint resolution of disapproval, through which a simple majority vote can defeat the proposed regulation. We must speak up NOW so our Arizona members of Congress know that we reject this MAGA civics takeover!
