We're about to enter the fifth week of the government shutdown.

Let's be clear: the shutdown sucks. Nobody wants this. But we have to make tough choices right now, and I want you to understand what's at stake.

If we let Republicans have their way, they will DOUBLE or TRIPLE health insurance premiums for 24 million Americans. All to pay for billionaire tax breaks.

That's not a partisan talking point. That's what's on the table.

This moment is about Democrats in Congress standing up for working people and their families. Republicans have broken their promises before — we've seen it happen over and over again. That's why we need to use our leverage now to protect tens of millions of Americans from getting crushed by healthcare costs they can't afford.

In my neighborhood in South Phoenix, I know families who are already struggling with the cost of everything — groceries, rent, gas. Doubling their health insurance premiums would be devastating. These are the people Republicans are willing to sacrifice to protect tax cuts for the wealthy.

I won't let that happen without a fight.
