Yesterday in one of its last major decisions of 2020, the Supreme Court ruled that employers and schools can deny health insurance coverage for birth control based on religious objections.

This is a major blow to women’s health care and moves our fight for reproductive rights backward.

Prior to this decision, the Affordable Care Act required all employers and schools to include free birth control coverage, which benefited over 62 million people. Now, millions could be forced to pay for this medication out of pocket.

Birth control is not simply a form of contraception: for many, it’s prescribed as treatment for issues like endometriosis and acne, and can reduce the risk of developing ovarian cysts and uterine cancer in women.

No one’s boss should come between them and their personal health decisions, period.

Unlike my opponent Jaime Herrera Beutler, who has an extreme 100% voting record against women’s right to choose, I believe a woman has the right to make her own health care choices.

It is a privacy issue and an economic issue, and if elected to Congress, I will fight against any attempt to invade a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions.
