John,
Right now, a lot of people look at our federal government and feel powerless. But we can have a huge impact by electing more progressive leaders at the local and state level. These positions are powerful, and we need to fill them with grassroots champions for the people who’ll fight back against fascism.
With Election Day coming up in a little over one week—on Tuesday, November 4th—I’ve endorsed numerous local candidates who need our support. Today I’m lifting up two dedicated public servants running for office in my district:
-
Lisa Hicks-Clayton, who’s running for re-election as the Treasurer of Dearborn Heights. In addition to managing a local food pantry, she regularly runs food, clothing, and school supply drives for people in need. She’s dedicated to transparency, holding frequent office hours and meeting with constituents to support them with financial assistance and financial literacy.
-
Stacy Jackson, who’s running for Southfield City Council. She has founded and collaborated with local organizations to support renters’ rights, prevent home foreclosures, end gun violence, and uplift Black women. If elected, she’ll listen to and prioritize people’s needs. I got to join Stacy last week as she knocked on doors in her community, where her love for her city’s residents shone brightly:
With just over one week left until Election Day, voters have absentee ballots in hand right now, and early in-person voting has begun in many Michigan communities. Stacy and Lisa are running in competitive races and need our support in this crucial final push.
Can you help these grassroots people-powered champions serve their communities and deepen our democracy? Please split a donation today between Stacy Jackson, Lisa Hicks-Clayton, and my Rooted In Community Leadership PAC—which trains and supports progressive candidates like them.

Thank you so much. Please feel free to read more about Lisa and Stacy in the email I sent out yesterday, and don’t forget to vote in your local election before or on November 4th!
With you in the fight for a better future,
Rashida

John,
Did you know that local and state elections are coming up soon? Don’t forget to vote on or by November 4th!
In this time of federal gridlock, we’ve got to lift up champions for the people at all levels of government. We need more elected leaders who are rooted in their communities, and who will strengthen our democracy through deeply listening to their constituents.
So I’m proudly endorsing progressive leaders running for public office at the local level, where they can make huge impacts in our communities. Today I want to highlight two people-powered candidates running in my district who need our support:
Stacy Jackson, who’s running for Southfield City Council to be a voice for the people. She’s been a grassroots leader serving her community for years as a champion for housing rights, equity and social justice, ending gun violence, better infrastructure, and a more responsive government. When I joined Stacy to knock on doors last week, her love for Southfield residents shone through as she spoke with her neighbors:
I’m also proud to endorse Lisa Hicks-Clayton, who’s running for re-election as the Treasurer of Dearborn Heights. Lisa goes above and beyond to serve her community, including running food, clothing, and school supply drives for people in need. She regularly holds office hours and constituent service days, helping thousands of constituents with tax and water assistance, home foreclosure prevention, and free financial literacy programs.
Both Lisa and Stacy are committed to building trust in government through transparency. We need them and leaders like them in government! But they’re running in competitive races, and with people voting right now by absentee ballot and early in-person voting, they urgently need our support.
Please chip in what you can afford right now to support progressive leaders and dedicated public servants Lisa Hicks-Clayton and Stacy Jackson, as well as my Rooted In Community Leadership PAC—which trains and supports progressive candidates like them!

Like me, Stacy Jackson grew up in Southwest Detroit and experienced environmental injustice firsthand. She’s lost relatives to health issues due to pollution, which sparked her passion for environmental justice. If elected, she’ll be a much-needed fighter for our rights—from our right to clean water and air, to healthcare and education, and constitutional rights such as free speech.
A fighter for working families, Lisa Hicks-Clayton has been endorsed by unions like AFSCME Michigan and the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights. Lisa also serves the people as a food pantry manager who delivers food to people who are home-bound, and as a board member for two local organizations: the Western Wayne County NAACP and the Dearborn-Dearborn Heights League of Women Voters.

In addition, Lisa has done such a great job as treasurer that the Wayne County Treasurers Association elected her President, and the Michigan Municipal League selected her to join their intensive training program for elected women leaders.
Both Lisa and Stacy are the fighters for the people that our communities need and deserve. With a little over one week left until Election Day, and with absentee ballots in voters’ hands and early in-person voting available in many MI communities, these candidates urgently need our support.
Can you pitch in today to support these extraordinary public servants as well as my Rooted In Community Leadership PAC (which supports and trains other exceptional candidates)?
Thank you so much for supporting progressive champions at all levels of government. Together, we’re building a more inclusive, responsive, and representative democracy where everyone has what they need to thrive.
In solidarity,
Rashida
