Starting November 1, 2.9 million New Yorkers who rely on SNAP benefits and 440,000 WIC recipients could face interruptions in assistance if Senate Democrats continue to block passage of the bipartisan funding bill. These programs are essential lifelines for families, seniors, and children across New York, and Andrew is committed to ensuring they remain fully funded and accessible to those who need them most. Senate Democrats’ refusal to pass the clean, bipartisan continuing resolution has forced a harmful government shutdown that now threatens to cut off food assistance, delay federal employees' paychecks, and disrupt critical services nationwide. While House Republicans acted weeks ago to keep the government open at current funding levels, Senate Democrats chose political games over governing responsibly—putting vulnerable Americans at risk in the process. Andrew continues to call for immediate action to reopen the government and protect those who depend on these programs. ANDREW IN THE NEWS Rep Garbarino: The Biden administration’s failed policies allowed dangerous individuals with terrorist ties from around the world to enter our country. " ... [Congress] is urging the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to review every visa application approved from 'high-risk countries' under the Biden administration. In a letter sent to the department on Wednesday, [Members of Congress] stated that Mahmoud Amin Ya’qub Al-Muhtadi, a native of the Gaza Strip who was recently arrested in Louisiana and charged with being involved in the Hamas-led terrorist attacks on Oct. 7, 2023, reflects 'the extreme danger posed by the previous administration’s policies.'... Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-N.Y.), chair of the House Committee on Homeland Security, told JNS that 'it is horrifying but sadly not surprising that the Biden-Harris administration permitted an individual who allegedly participated in the cowardly Oct. 7 attacks on our ally Israel, which led to the slaughter of innocent men, women and children, to enter our country.' 'The Biden administration’s failed policies allowed dangerous individuals with terrorist ties from around the world to enter our country, and the committee will continue to focus on fixing the homeland security challenges that persist because of the failures of the last four years,' Garbarino said. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS Andrew Cosponsors Bill To Support Our Troops This week, Andrew cosponsored the Pay Our Troops Act, bipartisan legislation to provide pay to members of the U.S. Armed Services who have gone without compensation during the Government Shutdown. This bill guarantees that America’s servicemembers—who put their lives on the line every day to defend our nation—are no longer forced to miss paychecks because of Senate Democrats' failure to pass the clean continuing resolution to keep the government open. Andrew voted in favor of the Continuing Resolution when it passed the House on September 19, and it is long past time for the Senate to stop the political games and reopen the federal government.
