John, war tears a child’s life apart, stealing their sense of safety and often forcing them to flee everything they know. They watch as their families struggle to survive, searching for food, water and shelter — and ultimately striving to rebuild their lives.

In children’s greatest moments of need, you can make a powerful difference with a gift donation that honors someone you love and sends relief to families in crisis. We’ll send your gift recipient a free personalized greeting card describing the impact of the gift donation made in their name.

Below are three stories that show how basic necessities, like clothing and food, can have a life-changing impact for a child whose life has been upended by conflict.

Lamees, 7 years old, Gaza
The war in Gaza has forced Lamees* and her family to flee three times. They faced overcrowding, food shortages and harsh winter conditions while living in a tent. With the help of our supporters, we provided them with essential items like tarps, pillows and mattresses to make their living space more comfortable. Save the Children also ensured the children had warm clothing and extra blankets to protect them from harsh winter conditions.

Solene, 14 months old, Democratic Republic of Congo
Charly* and her young daughter, Solene*, lived in a displacement camp after fleeing armed groups that burned their village. Charly worked hard to provide for her daughter, but they still had little to eat. When Solene got sick, Charly found help at a Save the Children hospital, where she received free care. The nurses diagnosed Solene with complications from acute malnutrition. But with medicine and therapeutic food, she regained her health and began to thrive.

Suha, 12 years old, Syria

Suha* was just 7 years old when a rocket struck her family’s house, killing her mother and little sister. She and her siblings fled with their grandparents to a displacement camp in Northeast Syria. For years, they lived in isolation, but when Save the Children opened a temporary school and child-friendly space nearby, the children were finally free to learn and play. Suha called it "a new world." Now, she and her siblings are learning basic literacy and math skills and enjoying activities like art and sports.
