Colin Allred here. I want to break down the current state of the race for Texas’ U.S. Senate seat for you.
I know we talk about polling a lot. But that’s because, like it or not, collecting real data from real voters as often as we can is the best tool we have for determining our chances of winning competitive races like ours.
My opponents are looking at the same polls we are. Every time we get the good news of a poll showing us ahead, it’s tempered with the realization that it will mean more money pouring into Texas and more attack ads coming our way in an attempt to stop that momentum.
And right now, I’m excited to tell you, we have poll after poll showing we can win here in Texas, which would be a huge step toward flipping the Senate for Democrats.
That’s why I wanted to share this memo my team put together. I hope you’ll give it a quick read and see what we’ve learned and are taking away from the latest polls out of Texas – and as always, let us know your thoughts and questions in the comments.
Team Allred Polling Memo
Big news out of Texas: Statewide and national polls show the GOP primary is messier than ever. Meanwhile, Colin Allred is the Democrat with the strongest chance of defeating every potential Republican opponent.
These are our campaign’s key takeaways from the latest polling (TLDR: We’re feeling confident that together, we will flip Texas blue next November!):
1. The GOP primary is growing more chaotic – increasing the vulnerability of the eventual nominee
Wesley Hunt entering the race earlier this month to join Attorney General Ken Paxton in challenging incumbent Sen. John Cornyn is yet another sign that the Texas GOP is in free fall, scrambling – and failing – to find a clear leader to take on Colin.
It’s pretty unusual for a longtime incumbent Senator to get multiple primary challengers – and it’s almost unprecedented for the incumbent to be trailing them in multiple polls. Sen. Cornyn’s team has already spent more than $10 million to try and improve his standing among Republican voters, and this is all he has to show for it.
With the polls showing such a tight race, all three Republican candidates are in a race to the bottom to see who can cozy up to Trump the most – in their minds, whoever can prove themselves the biggest Trump bootlicker wins.
2. Our campaign has the strongest chance of defeating the GOP front-runner
While the candidates on the GOP side are fighting to win Trump’s approval, Colin has been touring the state focused on meeting with actual Texans – and it’s showing. The most recent poll out in this race puts Colin in the lead:
And that poll is not an outlier – this is the fourth poll that has shown Colin as THE Democrat who can flip Texas blue over the leading GOP candidate, Ken Paxton.
Another important finding by The Texas Trends Report, jointly released by researchers at the University of Houston and Texas Southern University, shows that Colin is the most popular candidate from either party among registered voters statewide.
3. The polls confirm what we’re seeing on the campaign trail
Whether it’s at a pulga in South Texas, picking up a shift at a bar in Hutto, or attending a football game in Dallas, folks recognize Colin, cheer him on, and tell us they are ready for change.
That energy – on top of these great polling numbers – confirms what we already know: Colin Allred is the Democrat who can win statewide and deliver a Texas that works for everyone. Texans know who Colin is, they know what he stands for, and they are ready to make him their next U.S. Senator.
Momentum is building fast – the polls prove it, and we hope you’ll be a part of it! Will you make a donation to support Colin’s grassroots movement? [ [link removed] ]
Again and again, the polls are confirming what we know to be true. Colin Allred can win, but this is going to be one of the, if not the, closest Senate races in the country. But that also means it will be one of the most expensive. And unlike his GOP opponents, Colin doesn’t accept corporate PAC donations – he relies on $5 and $25 contributions from real people like you.
