KOSA “Duty of Care”: What is it and Why Does it Matter?
Almost three-quarters of boys, ages 11 to 17 are being exposed to hyper-masculine content on the Internet.
according to new research from Common Sense Media
. This content is most commonly about making money, building muscle and fighting or weapons. What’s more disturbing:
Over two-thirds of boys surveyed say they are fed this content without asking for it. According to them, it just showed up on their feed one day.
The effect: boys are more likely to report feeling lonely, suppress their emotions, have low self-esteem.
Girls also endure negative effects from Internet algorithms.
Researchers at Common Sense Media took testimony from young girls;
one said her algorithms were
flooded with anxiety and depression content after only watching one or two videos.

An 11-year-old girl on YouTube said,
“There were bad videos that gave me nightmares one time. Told me to hurt my family.”
Social media algorithms are addictive and predatory, tormenting children on the Internet. Tech executives have shown us time and time again that they are not interested in protecting child users if it negatively affects their bottom line.
This is why we must pass the Kids Online Safety Act.

The videos weren't pornographic in nature, but Notopolous recognized them as "fetish content." Videos of her appearing pregnant, alongside other fetishes, were pervasive.
"Like I said, I'd been
having a lot of fun on Sora
, letting friends and even strangers make silly videos with my face. But the idea that someone was making a video that had some potential sexual gratification element made me feel fairly icked out."

Florida AG announces criminal investigation into video game Roblox
Florida Attorney General, James Uthmeier, announced this week that he would issue a criminal subpeona to Roblox.
Roblox, a NCOSE Dirty Dozen List target
for two years in a row, has been described by some researchers as a
"pedophile hellscape."
Despite public pressure, they have continuously refused to implement the necessary safeguards that would protect child users.
"'Roblox profited off of our kids while exposing them to the most dangerous of harms. They enabled our kids to be abused,' Uthmeier said in a
video
posted to his social media. 'Companies like Roblox have become breeding grounds for predators to get to and have access to our kids.'"
