Our Community is Facing a Health Care Crisis

Dear Neighbor,

Our community is facing a health care crisis. Plans put forward by RWJBarnabas and Governor Murphy to move Monmouth Medical Center out of Long Branch and to a new facility in Tinton Falls that would mostly serve wealthier patients are moving forward. It's a cruel abandonment of working people and minority communities in my district, and the latest example of the health care industry

Combined with Republican price hikes to health insurance, this couldn't have come at a worse time for our community.

It's also not just about Long Branch—towns all across the region will feel the impact of patients flocking to other hospitals and medical facilities because of Long Branch’s hospital closing. Longer wait times, reduced quality of service—all are expected because of this short-sighted plan.

Ever since this disaster of a plan moved forward, I have spoken out against the closure of Monmouth Medical Center hospital in Long Branch. You may share your thoughts on the closure at an upcoming public hearing scheduled to take place on Wednesday, October 29 from 4:00-6:00 PM and will take place at the Ocean Place Resort, 1 Ocean Boulevard, Long Branch, NJ 07740.

Week THREE of the Republican Shutdown

We've finished a third week and are now entering a fourth week of a government shutdown because Republicans refuse to lower the cost of your health care. This makes this ENTIRELY AVOIDABLE shutdown the second-longest in American history.

House Republicans have been missing from Washington for over a month, and refuse to come back to work. They're holing up and are NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. While Republicans have been hiding from their constituents, I'm not hiding. Insurance is already unaffordable, and the Republican price hikes would force families across our state to make tough decisions about what they can afford. I asked you how you would be impacted by these policies while out and about this week.

Trump is trying to mess with your home's safety

The Republican Shutdown isn't just about health care premiums, rising costs, and strangled federal funding—it's also about your house. Prospective homebuyers aren't able to renew their federal flood insurance under the National Flood Insurance Program because of the Republican Shutdown, and that's a direct attack on coastal communities like ours.

That's why I introduced a bill to reauthorize and secure the NFIP. My legislation restores long-term stability so homeowners are protected no matter who’s in power in Washington. Given the fact that more than 3,000 flood warnings were issued this year alone (and that the crisis is only set to get worse due to the impacts of climate change), we need this funding to be secured now more than ever.

Hands off our trains!

At the beginning of the Republican Shutdown, the Trump Administration canceled funding for the Gateway Tunnel project—an announcement that was a direct slap in the face to New Jersey commuters.

Last week, Trump said that the entire project had been axed--a completely illegal action on the part of the White House. Trump's unlawful retaliation against Blue States for a shutdown HE CAUSED is straight out of a tyrannical king's playbook.

Gateway isn't just an infrastructure project—it's a new horizon for our state and region. Significant work and investment has already begun for this project, and it would transform the way people get to and from New York and across the northeast by drastically reducing delays, shortening commutes, improving air quality, and unclogging traffic jams. No matter where you live in New Jersey, Gateway will make your life easier, and Trump's threat to cancel it is a direct attack on your quality of life.

My colleagues and I aren't backing down. We want a full restoration of the Gateway Project because we know the future of our state depends on it. You can learn more about it in our video below.
