Bay area CFT local unions join mobilization to successfully halt stepped up immigration raids

Over the past week Donald Trump has made explicit threats to deploy federal troops in San Francisco, even threatening to invoke the Insurrection Act, a major authoritarian escalation. His administration then moved approximately 100 immigration agents onto a small island near Alameda with a facility operated by the Coast Guard.

Following the threats and the movement of the immigration agents, the Bay Area jumped into action to protest the alarming move, and to support immigrant communities. Right in the mix were CFT local unions and retirees, who connected with activists in the Bay Resistance network and started developing plans to peacefully resist the potential deployment, culminating with a spirited rally near the Embarcadero last night, where UESF President Cassondra Curiel (pictured above) gave a great speech.

Thanks to everyone who jumped into action. Collectively our quick work got Donald Trump to back off his threats and halt the deployment of the troops. Our work and advocacy needs to continue and it will.

Remember to VOTE YES and get your Prop. 50 ballots in the mail ASAP

Donald Trump and his billionaire allies have been attacking workers and our families and now they want to rig the 2026 elections. Already Texas, Missouri, Utah, and North Carolina have moved to redistrict their states in order to shield Donald Trump and his allies in Congress from being held accountable for their unpopular agenda. This is an emergency for our democracy that will have severe consequences if we don’t act.

So please VOTE YES on Prop. 50 and get your ballots in the mail ASAP. You can also drop your ballot at secure voting centers and ballot drop boxes throughout your community. If you do vote early, you can also check to confirm your ballot has been received (votes are not counted until polls close on election day).

Ready to volunteer? Sign up for a phonebank shift or neighborhood walk with your local Labor Council.

Peaceful No Kings protests the largest in nation’s history

The No Kings rallies last Saturday were the largest peaceful protest in U.S. history, with nearly seven million people taking to the streets to say: America has no kings, and the power belongs to the people.

CFT members from throughout the state took part in the day of action, including Sacramento (pictured above), where CFT President Jeff Freitas gave a fiery speech in defense of democracy. “We say NO to fear. We say NO to fascism. We say YES to students. We say YES to workers. We say YES to freedom. We say YES to democracy,” said Freitas as part of his call to action to the crowd.

Keep up the great organizing everyone!
