Trump is already playing defense in Arizona's 1st Congressional District.

Arizona GOP Chair Gina Swoboda just announced she's running to replace David Schweikert in AZ-01, and she's already got Trump's endorsement. That tells you everything you need to know about how worried Republicans are about losing this seat.

They should be worried.

Right now, AZ-01 is a toss-up. The district spans Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, and Fountain Hills. It’s one of the most competitive seats in the country. David Schweikert barely held on to the seat in 2024 with just 52% of the vote. 

Trump knows if we win, we're one seat closer to taking back the House. That's why he moved fast to back Swoboda before the primary even heats up.

Here's what makes this race winnable: Trump's endorsement helps Swoboda in the primary, but it's a liability in the general election. Trump's popularity is sinking, and voters in competitive districts are turning against his administration's policies — including the shutdown he's enabling and the healthcare cuts Republicans are pushing.

We have strong Democratic candidates ready to compete for this seat. But Republicans in Arizona and nationwide will pour money into defending it, so we can't let our guard down.
