CONNECTICUT DEMOCRATS HOLD AMERICA HOSTAGE TO FUND ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS AND EXTEND COVID-ERA GIVEAWAYS

Middletown, CT – Connecticut’s all-Democrat Congressional delegation is using the federal government shutdown as political leverage to extort changes to recently passed federal legislation. The changes the Democrats want would reinstate taxpayer-funded subsidies for illegal immigrants and extend COVID-era subsidies for individuals earning up to $200,000 a year.

“The Democrats’ proposal, backed by every member of Connecticut’s Democrat delegation, would funnel nearly $200 billion into healthcare for illegal immigrants and non-citizens,” said Connecticut Republican State Chairman Ben Proto. “That’s more than enough to fund the entire Children’s Health Insurance Program. Unfortunately, Democrats would rather prioritize non-citizens over American kids.”

“The fact is,” Proto continued, “the original Obamacare subsidies are not being touched. The people who were meant to be helped by Obamacare will continue to receive that help. What Democrats are fighting for are the temporary COVID-era giveaways that expanded subsidies to individuals making up to $200,000 a year. These are individuals who were never supposed to be subsidized by the taxpayers in the first place.”

“While our congressional delegation holds press conferences to dodge responsibility for their own failures, Connecticut families are paying the price for the Democrats’ shutdown of the federal government,” Proto said. “Their plan adds nearly $1.5 trillion in new spending; spending that doesn’t help working Americans but instead bankrolls the far-left’s progressive wish list and pours more taxpayer money into the pockets of illegal immigrants and upper-income households.”

“Democrats need to stop acting like spoiled children throwing a tantrum while America holds its breath,” said Proto. “Vote for the Continuing Resolution, which already maintains Biden-era Democrat spending levels, and then sit down with President Trump and Republican leaders to negotiate like adults.”

“Stop the political theater. Stop the finger-pointing. And start doing the job you were elected to do. Your job is to serve the American people, not the Democrat Party’s donor class and far-left special interests,” concluded Proto.
