Special PopEd Event Next Week

Population Education equips K–12 educators with the tools to teach young learners about the connections between global population trends, people, and the environment.

A highlight of PopEd is our annual World of 8 Billion student video contest. This global competition invites middle and high school students to produce 60-second videos that explore the impacts of population growth on one of three challenges each year and propose creative, sustainable solutions.

During this virtual event, you’ll see the winning entries from the 2024-2025 contest and hear about the incredible response from students worldwide. In addition, you’ll learn more about PopEd’s professional development workshops, ready-to-use curricula materials, and interactive activities used in classrooms throughout Northern America and beyond.

Reflecting on Dr. Jane Goodall’s Legacy

Our team at Population Connection is deeply saddened by the passing of the legendary ethologist and conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall. One of the first female field researchers, Dr. Goodall defied adversity in a field that was heavily male-dominated at the time. Through her work with her non-profit, the Jane Goodall Institute, she stood as one of the most tireless and inspirational messengers for environmental protection, empathy, and hope of our time.

She was also a true champion for the progressive population movement. Dr. Goodall never shied away from addressing the issue of human population growth, denouncing the absurd notion of infinite growth on a finite planet, and highlighting the critical role of women’s empowerment in protecting the environment.

PopEd's Fall Theme: The World's Women

Around the globe, women and girls play vital roles in their families and communities. Yet they often face challenges that limit their opportunities to thrive, including unequal access to education, health care, and decision-making. This fall, the Population Education team will supply lessons and classroom resources to help students explore these issues. By understanding connections between population dynamics and gender equity, students can see how investing in women and girls doesn’t just change individual lives but transforms communities and helps shape a sustainable future for everyone.
