It's Time to Speak Up (Freedom Focus)Standing up for American innovation and fighting against the left's Obamacare demands |
Greetings from all of us at Advancing American Freedom. It’s been three weeks since the government shut down — but we continue to stand firm in the fight for conservative values on and off the Hill.
A troubling new form of political correctness is emerging — not from the left, but from within the populist right. Once liberated by President Trump’s victory in 2024, traditional conservatives now find themselves whispering again, not because of progressive cancel culture, but right-wing loyalty tests and fear of internal reprisal.
We’ve been fighting against the speech codes of the left and government overreach for years — but some on the right are beginning to accept these actions if it aligns with where their loyalties lie. It’s time for conservatives to stand against this censorship and speak without fear.

Republicans Should Stand Firm on Obamacare As AAF Chairman Marc Short emphasized on CNN, and in the Washington Examiner this week, that Republicans must hold the line. Obamacare has already failed to deliver on its promises of lower costs and more choice. Premiums have skyrocketed, insurers have fled the market, and the program has added trillions to our debt. Yet Democrats want to double down on their broken system. Extending these subsidies would not be bipartisanship — it would be surrender. This is a moment for conservatives to stand firm for fiscal sanity and free markets. We must refuse to pay for the Left’s policy disasters.

Congress Must Reclaim its Power In a letter to the editor of the Washington Post, AAF General Counsel Marc Wheat made clear that Chad Squitieri’s recent defense of presidential tariff powers misses the mark. Our Constitution is clear: Congress—not the president—holds the power to tax and regulate trade. When presidents unilaterally impose tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, they trample on the separation of powers that our Founders intentionally designed.
The Supreme Court’s duty is to restore those constitutional boundaries. For too long, the Court has allowed Congress to hand off its legislative responsibilities through vague laws. It’s time to reaffirm that the executive branch cannot legislate whenever it feels like it.

American Innovation is Under Threat President Trump’s first administration centered around pro-life values and American innovation. But this time, RFK Jr.’s HHS is stalling progress and pushing technological advancements into the hands of China. As AAF Senior Fellow Joel Griffith emphasizes in Center Square, ambiguity in the FDA has consequences.
Companies are offshoring medical trials to China due to DOGE cuts that slashed expert doctors and researchers. Projects that once provided life-saving care and experimental treatments have shut down. While chaos ensues in our own government, the CCP is welcoming companies looking for affordable options. The administration must return to its original stance on American leadership and innovation so we can maintain our standing as the foremost producer of biomedical innovation in the world.

Tariffs are Hurting American Farmers We’ve said it before — tariffs are a tax on the American people. When farmers at home have to pay more to produce the same amount of goods, the process becomes unsustainable. It’s time for Congress to reclaim its power and put an end to broad-based tariffs. Only then will American farmers be able to thrive once more.
