At a moment when the Trump Administration’s lawlessness is at its peak, Muslim Advocates filed two new urgent federal lawsuits last week :
MUSLIM ADVOCATES REPRESENTS LABOR UNIONS TO COMBAT SURVEILLANCE OF PROTECTED FIRST AMENDMENT SPEECH. [[link removed]]
Last week, Muslim Advocates sued the Trump administration on behalf of United Auto Workers, Communication Workers of America, and the American Federation of Teachers—among the most powerful, storied labor unions in the country—to stop the lawless targeting and repression of free speech through online surveillance of social media activity. Citing ongoing efforts by this administration to police and then punish individuals for expressing dissenting views, this collective is fighting back against state surveillance and targeting, and standing up for free speech. As targets of surveillance for decades, our communities know how crucial this effort is to protecting the promise of the constitution. Our co-counsel are the Electronic Frontier Foundation and the Media Freedom and Information Access Clinic.
MUSLIM ADVOCATES FIGHTS TO HELP SYRIAN NATIONALS RETAIN TEMPORARY PROTECTIVE STATUS. [[link removed]]
On Monday, Muslim Advocates also filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration to save the Temporary Protective Status (TPS) of seven Syrian nationals. The plaintiffs include doctors, caretakers, students, business owners, and others who have been living and thriving in the United States since the start of the Syrian civil war. The Trump administration, pursuing a brazenly white supremacist immigration agenda, is upending their lives and preparing to forcibly return them to Syria, placing them at risk in a country wracked by conflict. Our partners in this lawsuit are the International Refugee Assistance Project and Van Der Hout LLP.
